Witt Family of Old Pike County by Roy Lee Parsons. It gives the French Huguenot Guillaume Witt as the progenitor (the best information he had at the time), and thus the relationships of the first few generations are confused, but his listing of the descendants of Joseph Witt (son of Charles C. Witt and Lavinia Harbour) and Sarah Kimbrough who eventually migrated from East Tennessee through northern Alabama to Pike County, Arkansas, and to central Texas is generally sound. The text includes "Historical Briefs on the Pioneer Witts," by Lucy M. Ball of Jacksonville, Illinois, and excerpts from a letter from her to my father dated August 29, 1938. It also includes the last will and testament of William Witt, items from theWill of Charles C. Witt, and chapters on Reverend Silas Witt (b. 1790), Reverend William Carroll Witt (b. 1820), and the Pike County, Arkansas, branch of the Witts headed by Thomas Gentry Witt (b. 1845) and Edith Catherine Reid (b. 1851). Another section of the book gives information on the related families Gentry, Randolph, and Hollingsworth. All names in the book are indexed (not available in the electronic copy). I have "Witt Family of Old Pike County" on computer and can provide electronic copies or Xeroxed copies twoparsons@home.com-See also http://members.home.net/nparsons13/ |
