    Comments?Richard was my grandfather. On his death certificate it lists his parents as William and Martha Martin Witt from North Carolina. It also lists a witness as J.W. Witt from Adams, Tennessee. J.W. is probably his brother John. Richard and Lillie had three children, Ray, Mary Ruth and Jessie (female) my mother. I believe William's parents were Mills and Jane Dawson, however I don't have any documented proof. I would appreciate any help I can get finding documented proof that Mills was the father of William.

    Comments?Branch is UNKnown. Family tradition states that Daniel Witt served in the war of 1812, and at the time lived near the St. Patrick Court House, in Patrick County, Virginia. At some point he moved to Norfolk, Virginia, where he was married. Illinois records show that On 20 May, 1835, Daniel Witt bought 218.4 acres of land in Adams County, Illinois. He is then found in the 1840 Federal Census Index, Federal Population Schedule, for Adams County, Illinois, City of Quincy, pg 69 (ILS4a2852692). In the 1850 Federal Census Index, Federal Population Schedule, for Adams County, Illinois, Town of Houston, pg 122b - "on the 25th day of Nov 1850. Dwelling 54, Daniel Witt, age 63, Farmer, 1000 acres, born in Virginia, Martha Witt, age 53, born in Virginia, Daniel Witt, age 18, Farmer, born in Illinois, Jackson Witt, age 15, born in Illinois, George Witt, age 13, born in Illinois, William Witt, age 31, Farmer, 1000 acres, born in Virginia". He died prior to 1860, where only his wife is found in the 1860 Federal, Adams County, Illinois, Census, Houston Township (IL3809161, pg 999).

    Comments?According to John Whitt's obit he moved to Chatham Co.NC in 1828 with his father. He married Pheoba Johnson in 1844 in Chatham and moved to Hendricks Co.IN after the Civil War. Found with Pheoba in the 1850 Chatham Co. NC census living with his mother-in-law Hannah Johnson. His father is living with Frances and Cargil. In 1870 he is in Hendricks Co. IN census, dies 15 Feb. 1902, and is in Clayton cem. His death certificate lists as father John Whitt. Of interest one of his 9 children is , of course, named John Whitt.

    Comments?These dates and names might be off a bit. I found this info from a Randy Phillips; ransue1@swbell.net. Also found Pierre Chastain Sr. org. a group of French Huguenots, 207 passengers left Gravesend, England 19 April, 1700 aboard "Mary and Ann". They arrived in VA July 12 1700. This group given 10,000 acres of land south of James, land once owned by Monacan Tribe.

    Comments?Lillie Helen Witt, my great grandmother, married John M. Dalton of Patrick County, VA, on Nov. 15, 1894 in Patrick County, VA. They had children Lera, Patty, Helen, Gilmer, and I think 1 or 2 more sons. On the marriage license, Lillie's parents were listed as C.G. Witt, born in VA, and Mary E. Witt, born in KY. Thanks for any help in finding info on my gggrandparents C.G. and Mary E. Witt.
